Scott Alan Talley

Scott Alan Talley, 58, of Jackson, Missouri died Wednesday, March 4, 2026. He was born May 4, 1967 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to Robert Gene and Shirley Ann Bollinger Talley. He and Colleen Buffington were married March 23, 2008 in Fruitland, Missouri. Scott was a 1985 graduate at Cape Central High School where he was a varsity athlete. Upon graduation, Scott attended and completed Nashville Diesel College. After college, Scott spent the majority of his adult life as a mechanic in one capacity or another for Chrysler at Weiser Auto Park, SEMO Mustang, Bollinger Auto, Wilson's Auto Body, Paving Pros, Van Matre Buick, Morlan GMC, and owned his own business, Talley's Auto Repair started in 2008. He had many accomplishments during his career. While working at SEMO Mustang, his work in 1999-2000 restoring a 1968 Jerry Titus Trans-Am Mustang was featured in an article in Fast Mustangs magazine. He was most proud of being the owner/operator of his own successful business, Talley's Auto Repair which we started on 03/20/2008. Many would describe Scott as a hard working mechanical genius. Our business logo thanks to his brother Jeff was "If Talley Can't Fix-It, We Are All Screwed". He was brilliant and talented. He was the best at diagnosing what was wrong with an auto just by listening to it run. He took no short cuts on repairs. If he did a repair job, then you know it was done right. His mom said from a young age, Scott was always mechanically inclined. His parents recalled going out to dinner one night to come home to Scott having taken all the door knobs apart on every door in their home. Scott was knowledgeable about carpentry, remodeling, electrical, plumbing, flooring, pools, recovering pool tables, painting, auto body, small engines, concrete, roofing, paving etc. I'm sure I've left something out. There was nothing he could not repair. Scott was kind hearted and a push over when it came to helping others. He would go above and beyond in helping others whether it was a broken down vehicle, needing to move, or just to be there as a friend and listen. Scott had a heart of Gold, especially when it came to his family and was always there for them. He loved Nick, his son and Ean, his step-son dearly. He was so PROUD of them both. The only time he had tears of joy, was knowing that both boys were going to be successful in life. When I was able to get him away from the garage, he loved fishing and kayaking. He would always catch a stringer full of bass. He loved the sport of racing, but drag racing was his favorite spectator sport. He also loved to golf and played in several benefit golf tournaments. His retirement plan was to travel and to rebuild a 1969 Chevelle so he could race JJ Da Boss from the Memphis Street Racers. He loved to "hit the weight pile" and play handball. Scott will be sadly missed by all family, friends, classmates, associates and customers. He was a unique person and a man of many talents. Survivors include his wife and father as well as one son, Nicholas Talley of Jackson, Missouri; one step-son, Ean (Sidney) Buffington of Lompoc, California; two brothers, Jeffrey Robert (Cynthia) Talley of Mission Hills, Kansas and James Kent (Becky) Talley of Jackson, Missouri; five nieces and nephews, Sarah (Calan) McConkey of Liberty, Missouri, Alexandra (Jack) Swab of Prairie Village, Kansas, Bo Talley of Kansas City, Missouri, Reagan Talley of St. Charles, Missouri; Hannah Talley of Jackson, Missouri; as well as five great-nieces and nephews, JJ Swab, Talley Swab, Ford Swab, Whittier McConkey and Teller McConkey. He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Ann Talley in 2023. Visitation will be 10:00 am to 12:00 pm Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Anderson officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
