Roger Fields

Asst. Chief of Police Roger W. Fields, 50, of Jackson, Mo. died Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born October 13, 1963 in St. Louis to Bill Wayne and Bonnie Jean Darden Fields. He and Marsha Ann Shaver were married May 21, 1988 at Cape Girardeau, Mo. Roger was a graduate of Woodland High School in Marble Hill, Mo. and Southeast Missouri State University with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. He received a Certificate of Completion from Northwestern University Center for Public Safety, School of Police Staff and Command. He started with the Cape Girardeau Police Department in April 1988 and was promoted to assistant chief January 17, 2009. Roger was a member of Connection Point Church in Jackson, Mo. He served on the Cape Girardeau County SALT Committee, SEMO Drug Taskforce, and Cape Girardeau and Bollinger County Major Case Squad, United Way, and Jackson JAYF Little League Football. He also was Coordinator of the Annual Law Enforcement Memorial, past board member of Safehouse for Women, member of Chamber of Commerce, Infectious Disease Taskforce through Cape Girardeau County Health Department, and past Community Caring Council Board of Directors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and especially enjoyed bow fishing. Survivors include his parents, Bill and Bonnie Fields of Glenallen, Mo.; wife, Marsha Fields of Jackson; sons, Blake Fields (Bethany Rouggly) of Saint Charles, Mo., Kyle Fields of Jackson; brother, Rick Fields (Jane) of Glenallen; sister, Karen Martin (Chuck) of Jackson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mel and Sharon Shaver of Arnold, Mo.; nephews, Tim Fields of Jacksonville, Fla., Zachary and Seth Fields of Glenallen. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Jewell and Madeleine Darden and Charlie and Ruth Fields all of Kennett, Mo. Friends may call 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Connection Point Church, 1506 South Farmington Road, Jackson, Mo. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Connection Point Church with Dr. Chris Vaught, Senior Pastor and Rev. Kevin Mann, Executive Pastor officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau. Memorial contributions may be given to Cape Girardeau County SALT Council, 200 Folded Hills Lane, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701.
