Richard Dunlap

Richard Donald Dunlap, of Clark PA, passed away Thursday, June 4. He was 76. Richard was born August 15, 1932 in Manchester, Iowa, a son of Donald and Helen (McCandless) Dunlap. He graduated in 1950 from Ames High School and attended Iowa State University. Richard served in the 34th Infantry Division of the National Guard from 1949 to 1952. Richard was a Certified Electronics Manufacturing Engineer. While living in Cape Girardeau. Richard was employed by and/or owned several electronics companies including Davis Electric, LENCO and DiTech. After retiring in 2000, he became a engineering consultant and was still designing and building electronic parts and equipment. Although Richard�s work was his hobby, he also enjoyed racing beginning in his teen years. He raced gokarts and formula cars competitively in Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), his last race being the weekend of his 75th birthday. Richard was one of the first to design timing and scoring equipment for NASCAR tracks in the country. He was currently a regional and national tech inspector for SCCA. Richard was an avid pilot and a member of the Pilot�s Club for many years. While a resident of Clark, he was a council member for the borough and a current member of St. John�s Lutheran Church, Greenville. Mr. Dunlap is survived by his wife, Barbara (Leimer) Dunlap, whom he married on May 21, 1988 in Conway, Arkansas. Other survivors include: two daughters, Kathie (Calvin) Brennan of Cape Girardeau and Pamela Zwart of Lexington, KY; one son, Ian of Clark PA., who is currently in Basic Combat Training at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina. Grandchildren are Elizabeth Estes-Barr, Casey Brennan and Emily Brennan-Williams, Eric and Allan Zwart, great-grandchildren are Maddie and Anna Barr and Stratton Williams; two brothers, Robert Dunlap of Iowa and Tom Dunlap of New York; and a sister Cecelia Kemmerer of Iowa. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Estes, and a son Richard Mark Dunlap. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box or to the R. Mark Dunlap Scholarship at SE Missouri State University. GRAVESIDE SERVICE Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 11:00 am at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery. BURIAL Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery, Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
