Mollie Wheeler

Mollie Marie Wheeler, 76, of Leawood, Kansas, formerly of Cape Girardeau, Mo., died Monday, March 7, 2011 at Comfort Care Homes in Leawood, Kansas. She was born to the late Clyde and Hazel Furrow Horner May 7, 1934 in Risco, Mo. Mollie attended Bell City High School. She married the late Clifford L. Wheeler, Sr. in 1950 at Piggott, Ark. He preceded her in death March 1, 2007. Mollie enjoyed a 40 year career with the JC Penney Company, starting as a part time sales associate in Sikeston; advancing to positions of Personnel Manager at the Sikeston and West County (St. Louis) stores; District Fashion Manager for St. Louis; Regional Fashion Manager for the Midwest Region (Chicago) and Store Manager of stores located in Streator and Melrose Park, Illinois; East Lansing, Michigan, Elkhart, Indiana and Cincinnati, Ohio. Mollie was among the first women promoted to the position of store manager with the JC Penney Company. She retired in 1994 and moved from Cincinnati to Cape Girardeau, Missouri. After retirement, Mollie became actively involved with La Croix United Methodist Church. She was proud to be a Charter Member; she also served as a member of the Board of Directors. Mollie�s passion was traveling. She loved to pack up her RV and hit the road. She visited all of the states in the contiguous United States as well as several locations in Canada . She was an avid golfer and loved to play Bingo. Mollie is survived by four children: Donna Wheeler of Cape Girardeau; Debbie (Ken) Hageman of Lee�s Summit; Lee Ann Robinson of Cape Girardeau and Cliff (Debbie) Wheeler of Sycamore, Illinois. She is also survived by four brothers: Lex Horner of Dexter; Jerry and Joel Horner of High Ridge and Allen Horner of Imperial; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Musgraves and Regina Lang. Friends may call 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Funeral will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau with the Rev. Ron Watts officiating. Graveside service will follow at noon at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo.
