Carole Folwell

Carole Hirsch Folwell, 69, of Cape Girardeau, died Thursday, October 7, 2010 at Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born July 18, 1941 in Cape Girardeau, the daughter of Ralph L. and Laverne Moore Hirsch. She and John D. Folwell were married in August 1968 in Alton, Ill. Carole was a graduate of Central High School. She attended Southeast Missouri State University two years and Methodist Hospital Nursing School in Memphis, Tenn. three years where she received an R.N. degree. She worked as an R.N. in Texas, was an instructor at St. Luke's Hospital in St. Louis, and worked in the E.R. at St. Joseph's Hospital in Alton, Ill. She later worked as a tax preparer for H&R Block in Alton. In January 1999 she and her husband moved to Cape Girardeau. Carole was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau. Before moving to Cape Girardeau, she had been active at the College Avenue Presbyterian Church in Alton and the Collingwood Presbyterian Church in Toledo, Ohio. Her hobbies included quilting , gardening, sailing and making those around her laugh. Survivors include her husband, John D. Folwell of Cape Girardeau; one son, Nathan Folwell and wife, Sarah Schmidt of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one daughter, Mary Grace Folwell and husband, Jeff Riedle of Annapolis, Md.; four brothers, Donald (Faye) Hirsch of St. Louis, John (Jeanne) Hirsch of Cape Girardeau, Joseph (Susan) Hirsch of Indianapolis, Ind., Charles (Jane) Hirsch of Cape Girardeau; one sister, Mary (Daniel) Davis of Cape Girardeau; two grandchildren, Alice Marie and Frances Ann Folwell of Brooklyn, N.Y. two step grandsons, Nathan and Stuart Riedle of Annapolis, Md. She was preceded in death by her parents. Friends may call 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, October 11, 2010 at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Funeral will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau with the Rev. Bill Vincent and Rev. Paul Kabo officiating. Burial will follow at Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau. Memorial contributions may be given to Lutheran Family and Children's Services of Missouri "Memory Matters" program or Southeast Hospice.
