    William "Bill" Wayne Hennecke Sr.

    January 18, 1944 - February 25, 2022

    William “Bill” Wayne Hennecke, Sr, 78, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, February 25, 2022, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, MO. He was born January 18, 1944, in Gordonville, to Walter J. and Hazel Eakins Hennecke. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Gordonville and later confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Pocahontas. He graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1961 and served with Company E 140th Infantry with the Missouri National Guard from 1962-1968. William and Gail Patricia Tibbles Smith were married October 16, 1998. William operated William Hennecke, Painting Contractor since 1981 as an interior and exterior painter. He took pride in being an excellent painter and would jokingly say he gave everything two coats of paint, one stroke up and one stroke down. He was a member of Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau and a member of their Men’s Club. He enjoyed playing dart ball for many years. Survivors include his wife Gail Patricia Hennecke of Cape Girardeau; son Rev. William Wayne Hennecke, Jr. of Kimberling City, daughter Danielle (Gary) Poyner of Cape Girardeau; one granddaughter Ava Grace Poyner of Cape Girardeau; stepchildren Jackie McMahel of Winter Garden, FL and Chris Smith of Ballwin; three step grandchildren Tyler and Trey McMahel of Winter Garden and David Smith of Ballwin; two sisters, Frances Hitt of Cape Girardeau, and Donna Voorhes of Fruitland, sister in law Teresa Hennecke of Shalimar, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Walter L., Charles E. and Bobby R. Hennecke, two sisters Anna Marie (Clarence) Brucker and Connie (Lonnie) Myers, brother in laws Horace Hitt and Don Voorhes. Visitation will take place Tuesday, March 1, 2022 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Hanover Lutheran Church, with Pastor Rod Benkendorf officiating. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Entombment will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made given to Hanover Lutheran Church. The family requests masks be worn.
