May 6, 1937 - September 3, 2021
On September 3, 2021, Wesley James Steffen accomplished his lifelong desire to see Jesus. He was born May 6, 1937, in Granville, Iowa, to Clarence and Meta Steffen who were present in heaven to greet him along with his wife, Nelda; brothers Don, Delton, Gerald, Ronnie; and granddaughter Catherine. Left to celebrate his victory over death are his children Robin Delloro (Romeo) of Chesapeake, Virginia; Nanette Hancock (Tim) of Camden, North Carolina; and Mark Steffen (Danna) of St. Charles, Missouri. Also left to cherish the memory of their wonderful Grampa are his grandchildren Clayton Hancock (Pernita) of Huntsville, Alabama; Amanda Wagar (Michael) of Chesapeake, Virginia; Travis Graven (Carrie) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Christopher Hancock of St. Charles, Missouri; Samuel Steffen of St. Charles, Missouri, and his most precious great-grandson, Theodore Jenkins Hancock. Wes is also survived by his sisters, Darlene Brannon of Marcus, Iowa, and Joyce Mathis (Gary) of Hillsboro, Illinois, and numerous nieces and nephews. Wes was honorably discharged from his service in the United States Air Force and subsequently began his career with IBM. His eventual retirement gave him more time to pursue his interests of woodworking, card playing, and visiting his grandchildren. Wes will be remembered for his incredible skill and humor around the card table. An important part of Wes's life was his Christian faith. Upon moving to Cape Girardeau in 1963, he joined St. Andrew Lutheran Church and has actively participated in many ministries throughout the years. He shared his faith with his children and grandchildren who hold tight to the knowledge of being reunited with him one day. Visitation will be Thursday, September 9 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel. Funeral services will be Friday, September 10 at 10:00 am at St. Andrew Lutheran Church. Entombment will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum. Military rites will be provided by Missouri Honors Team. Wes never met a baby that didn't capture his heart. To celebrate that love, memorial donations can be made to Lutheran Family and Children Services, 3178 Blattner Drive, Cape Girardeau, MO 63703, or through their web site lfcsmo.org.
