Verna M. Whitticre, 93, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri died Monday, January 24, 2022 at the Lutheran Home. She was born February 18, 1928 in Cape Girardeau, MO to Marvie and Stella Statler Smith. She and Lester Paul Whitticre were married March 27, 1948 at Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He preceded her in death on March 19, 2017. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. Survivors include a son, Larry (Melinda) Whitticre of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Virginia Davis of Cape Girardeau; sister-in-law, Ann Smith of Valdosta, Georgia; two grandchildren, Randy (Angela) Whitticre of Fruitland, Missouri and Jennifer (Shawn) Royle of Gordonville, Missouri; two great-grandchildren, Avery Whitticre of Fruitland, Missouri and Louis Royle of Gordonville, Missouri; a niece, Donna Komerech of Cape Girardeau; and a nephew, Rodney Davis of Cape Girardeau. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers. Visitation will be 9:30 am to 11:00 am on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 am Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Douglas Breite officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
