Melvin Amelunke, 95, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri died Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at Missouri Veteran's Home. He was born November 28, 1926 in to Henry and Opal Hitt Amelunke. He and Jessie Iola Crites were married May 9, 1946 in Cape Girardeau. He served in the United States Army. He was a member of American Legion Post 63. He was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson. Survivors include three daughters, Sandra (Robert) LeVan of Henderson, Nevada, Carolyn (Virgil) Schreckenberg of Whitewater, Missouri and Donna (Rick) Martin of Whitewater, Missouri; five sons, Michael (Nancy) Amelunke of Columbia, Missouri, Ronald Amelunke of Whitewater, Missouri, Steven (Kim) Amelunke of Whitewater, Missouri, Wesley (Diane) Amelunke of Chaffee, Missouri, Gary (Andy Cox) Amelunke of Fort Myers, Florida; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and a sister. Visitation will be 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau. Funeral service will be at 10:00 am Friday, March 25, 2022 at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau with the Rev. Jimmie Corbin officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
