November 28, 1921 - January 15, 2021
Lillie Ethel Proffer Davie, 99, passed away Friday, January 15, 2021 at her daughters home in Barnhart, Missouri. Lillie was born November 28, 1921, at the family home three and a half miles south of Burfordville to Otis D. and Mary Manees Fowler Proffer. Lillie went to Helderman school and graduated in a class of three students. She grew up on the farm and worked along side her dad and brother in the fields as well as cooking and housekeeping with her mom. Lillie carried eggs and cream from their farm to Burfordville to purchase sugar and flour and then walked back home carrying groceries. She moved to Cape Girardeau at the age of 16 and went to work as a domestic engineer. She married Carl Edward Davie on June 17, 1944. She continued to work as he served in the military overseas. When his military service was complete they built a house in Cape and lived there for 62 years. They were baptized in April 1956, at the First General Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, and began the best legacy they could have given their children - wonderful Christian examples to lead them to their Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. Lillie was an avid quilter. She made quilts for her children, grandchildren and many others. She would make Lard cans full of cookies each year at Christmas to share with her family and friends who dropped in for a visit. Lillie was a master seamstress. She sewed all the children's clothes, even wedding dresses. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and friend to many. Her husband, Carl passed away after a brief unexpected illness in 2000. Lillie will be sadly missed by her five children: Vella (Dale) Michaelis of Barnhart, Missouri, Darla (Kenneth) Parkhill of Cape Girardeau, Randy (Dixie) Davie of Gordonville, Eddie (Janee) Davie of West Frankfort, Illinois and Lana (Mark) Cook of Cape Girardeau; ten grandchildren, Thomas Pender, Cherie (Jason) Michaelis-Cobb, Bradley Parkhill, Ryan Davie, Sara (Brandon) Bradshaw, Lindsey Davie, Taylor (Kyle) Bean, Christopher Davie, Casey (Sarah) Cook and Noland (Rachel) Cook; ten great-grandchildren, Regan and Ross Davie, Hadley Bradshaw, Adeline, Ainsley and Aliza Cook, Brianna Lillie Cobb, Hailey, Emma and Kaden Bean. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; eight sisters, Clela Yamnitz, Wanda Winschel, Geraldine Wilson, Violet Williams, Anna Burns, Irene Nesslein, Vernie McDaniels and Geneva Proffer; and three brothers, Ora D. Proffer, Marvin W. Proffer and Melvin Proffer. We will gather at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home to celebrate her life, reunite families and friends and praise God that we were blessed with such a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Visitation will be 11:30 am to 1:00 pm on Monday, January 18, 2021 at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm Monday at the funeral home led by a dear Christian friend Rev. Sam Ramdial. Burial will be at New Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
