John C. Hagans, 73, of Jackson, passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2020 on his farm. He was born on January 6, 1947 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to J.E. and Kathryn Hagans. He married Melody Oberbeck on June 7, 1969 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. John graduated from Jackson High School in 1965 and The University of Missouri in 1969 with a B.S. in Animal Husbandry. He proudly served his country as a member of the U. S. Army. After his honorable discharge, he was employed by Biokyowa and farmed in Cape Girardeau County the remainder of his life. His love of life came from sharing in the interests, sports, and accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed farming, history, trivia, watching Jeopardy, and spending time with his friends. Loving survivors include his wife of 51 years, Melody Hagans; son, Judd (Dana) Hagans of Jackson; daughters, Melody (Curtis) Bingham of Kansas City, Missouri, Crystal (Gabe) Sumner of San Francisco, California, Kelley Hagans of St. Louis; grandchildren, Miles and Claire Bingham, and Mason and Calyn Hagans; sisters, Betty (David) Carleton and Martha (Brennan) Colyer; brothers-in-law, Alan (Kathy) Oberbeck and Clarence Bodenstein; sisters-in-law, Anita (David) Lansmon Thiede, Edith (Kevin) Neal, Linda Seyer, and Suzanne Bodenstein; faithful farm dog, Mazie; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, John would want you to plant a tree, explore the great outdoors, visit a historical site, spend extra time with your family, or help a neighbor or someone in need. No visitation will be held. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00am, Friday, November 13, 2020 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson, Missouri with Pastor Joshua Schmidt officiating.
