    Dr. James Albert Buckenmyer

    November 11, 1932 - June 1, 2022

    Dr. James Albert Buckenmyer, 89, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at St. Francis Medical Center. He was born November 11, 1932 in Toledo, Ohio to Albert John and Marcia Philominea (Tremmel) Buckenmyer. He attended Central Catholic High School in Toledo, OH, graduating in 1950. He subsequently graduated from University of Notre Dame in 1954, with a degree in Business. James proudly served in the Army from 1954-1956. He attended Washington University in St. Louis, MO in the early 1960’s, and received his Doctorate degree (Doctor of Business Administration) from there in 1970. Dr. Buckenmyer was Dean of the College of Business at Southeast Missouri State University for several years and a professor of management there. He helped start the SEMO Extension campus and was the first director of the Bootheel Education Center in Malden. James was a member/mentor of SCORE (Service Core of Retired Executives). He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He is survived by five children, Marcia B. Freeborg of Jackson, Missouri, James W. Buckenmyer of Friendsville, Tennessee; Daniel Martin (Terra) Buckenmyer of Jackson, Missouri, Regina M. Buckenmyer of Cape Girardeau, Jacob A. Buckenmyer of Valencia, California; sister-in-law, Marcia Buckenmyer of Bowling Green, Ohio; 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; 5 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles Allen and John Joseph Buckenmyer. Visitation will be Sunday, June 5, 2022 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel. Funeral Mass will be Monday, June 6, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Alex Sutachan officiating. Burial with full military honors will be Wednesday, June 8th at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery in Toledo, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be given to Catholic Charities.
