Carolyn J. Young

Carolyn Patrick Young peacefully left this earth, Monday, March 31, 2025, to be with her Lord and Savior in heaven at the age of 81. Although born in California to Mary Kathryn (Katy) and Payton (Pat) Patrick, the family traveled back to its roots in southeast Missouri, eventually setting in Cape Girardeau, where Katy and Pat grew up. Carolyn attended Catholic school and graduated from Notre Dame High School. It was during high school that she met Robert Timothy (Tim) Young, the love of her life since age 15. Tim went to Central High School, and it was Carolyn's sister, Jayne, who set them up on a blind date! After marrying in August 17, 1963, the couple moved to St. Louis for Tim's coaching job at Lindberg High School. Their first child, Patrick, was born in Cape and then Michael and Laura were born in St. Louis. In1977, the Young family moved back to Cape Girardeau to join the family business, Patrick Furniture. Carolyn loved life and was kind and welcoming to her children's friends, extended family, friends, and foreign exchange students. Her home was her happy place. She loved making her home "just right" to her taste, putting love and care into every placemat, napkin and piece of silverware for entertaining either family or friends. Her nickname among family was "Martha Stewart Junior." She loved gardening, her hummingbirds, animals, and making her yard pleasant and joyful. Tri Delta was a big part of her life, as she was a member her freshman and sophomore year, as well as her sister Jayne at Southeast Missouri State University. She later became Alumni Advisor for several years when her daughter, Laura, was also a Tri-Delta. Carolyn also really enjoyed playing Bridge, and was a member of two Bridge clubs for many years. She was a good friend who had many dear friends. Carolyn was an avid sports fan, learning a lot from her husband when he was a coach. If the Cardinal baseball team was playing, you can bet Carolyn would be watching the game. She is survived by her dearly beloved husband, Tim Young, and her children: Pat (Lynn) Young, Mike (Corrie) Young, and Laura (Michael) Eck; grandchildren, Katie Young, Mallory (Adam) Ansberry, Emily Young, Natalie (Drew) Jackson, Jake Young, Grace Young, Lexi Young, Peyton Young, Cy Young, Mary Catherine Young, Tate Young, Alex Young, Haley Eck, Georgia Eck, JB Eck, Ansley Eck, Oliver Eck, Collins Eck, Michael (Jami) Troth; great-grandchildren Jayce Troth, Brody Troth and Blakely Troth. Also survived by her siblings: Jayne (Don) Sides, David (Kim) Patrick and Lesa Sutton. Visitation will be 11am-2pm, Thursday, April 3rd at Ford and Sons Funeral Home, 1001 N Mt. Auburn Road in Cape. Funeral Mass will be 2:30pm, Thursday, April 3rd at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1913 Ritter Dr., Cape. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to CHARGE Syndrome Foundation.
