Sharon Jeanne Gentry

Sharon Jeanne Gentry of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, went home to be with the Lord. Sharon was born on June 20, 1942, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, to the late Juanita and Eugene Gentry. A lifelong resident of the area, she dedicated her life to faith, family, and education. Sharon was a devoted Christian and was deeply involved in her church throughout her life. She faithfully served in many roles, including Missionette Coordinator, Sunday School teacher, and many other church-related ministries too numerous to mention. Her faith was not only something she professed, but something she lived daily through service, compassion, and an unwavering love for God and others. Education was both Sharon's calling and her passion. After attending the Cape Girardeau school system, she graduated from College High School in 1960. She earned her bachelor's degree from Southeast Missouri State University in 1964 and later completed her master's degree there in 1968. Sharon devoted more than four decades to teaching. She taught various grade levels at Nell Holcomb R-IV School from 1964 until her retirement in 1999. Even after retiring from the Missouri School System, she continued teaching fourth grade at Cape Christian School from 1999 to 2010. Through the many years of teaching, Sharon impacted countless lives. Her accomplishments were many, but her greatest joy came from the difference she made-teaching important life skills, shaping character, and instilling a love for God and people in all those she served. Sharon's memory lives on through her beloved son, Trae (Scarly) Thrower of Jackson; her cherished grandchildren, Mason, Madison and Ashley of Jackson; and the many students, colleagues, church members, and friends whose lives were forever changed by her influence. Visitation will be 10:00 am to 12:00 pm Friday, December 12, 2025 at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jason Grubbs officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau. Memorial contributions may be given to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Awareness.
