Ruby L. Marble

Ruby L. Marble (Aunt Suga), age 85, of Jackson, MO, formerly a long-time resident of Marion, IN was called to her heavenly home to rest on October 8, 2019 at 7:50 A.M.. She succumbed to her battle with Alzheimer’s at The Monticello House in Jackson. Ruby was born on January 10, 1934 to the late Ike Shelly Sr. and Luella Shelly in Hollandale, MS. She accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at a very young age. Her humble beginnings as a share cropper in the cotton fields of Mississippi helped to shape Ruby’s dedication to hard work, perseverance, and finding great joy in the simple things. In search of a better life Ruby moved north to settle in Marion, IN. She was employed at General Tire, Cablec, and the former Bradner Village nursing home. When not punching a clock, Ruby would spend hours cooking in the kitchen, serving in countless church ministries, and spending time with her family. She celebrated the true meaning of family and love and took great pride in her roles of wife, mother, and friend. Ruby was preceded in death by three husbands, the late James Bibbs of Mississippi, Leroy Lindsay and Simmie Marble both of Marion, IN. She raised four wonderful children, the late Martha Jean Ware (Ypsilanti, MI), Jimmie L. Bibbs (Jerome) Townsend (Jackson, MO), Otha Lindsay (Chicago, IL) and Chris Lindsay (Marion, IN). Ruby gladly stepped in, playing the mother role to many and was a devoted grandmother and great grandmother to over 20 children. Ruby was the eldest of seven, preceded in death by Ike (Big Jun) Shelly Sr., James (Mane) Shelly, and Johnnie Mae Shelly; survived by Ella Mae Shelly (Otha) Bass of Marion, IN, Irene Shelly (Charles) Dixon of Ypsilanti, MI, and Carrie Shelly (Arthur) Bullock of Ypsilanti, MI. She was known best for her kind, gentle, and easy-going spirit, her feistiness, sense of humor, and above all, her abounding faith in God. Through all of her many trials, even in her final days as her battle with Alzheimer’s was being lost, she still managed to outstretch her hand in reverence and praise to the one true living God. Homegoing celebration will be Friday, October 18, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Connection Point Church in Jackson with Rev. Dr. Chris Vaught officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be made in memory of Ruby to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
