Nancy Reed

Nancy Kay Reed, 77, of Chaffee, Missouri, died Monday, March 13, 2023, at Chaffee Nursing Center. She was born January 22, 1946, in Riverdale, Maryland to John Paul and Frances Brelsford Wintermoyer. Nancy grew up in Berwyn Heights, Maryland, graduating from High Point High School. After graduation, she worked for the Department of the Navy as a civilian communications specialist. She married Larry Reed in 1972, later moving to Alton, Missouri. While raising her three children, Nancy ran an in-home daycare and started her own custom gift basket and food catering businesses. Later, Nancy worked in youth education with University of Missouri County Extension and managed 4-H youth programs for Oregon County. Nancy was an excellent cook, enjoyed reading cookbooks and was always intrigued in creating new recipes. She loved hosting dinner parties and entertaining her family and friends over wonderful meals. Once retired, Nancy enjoyed spending time with her eight grandchildren. Nancy is survived by many wonderful friends and family, including three children: John (Sarah) Reed of Rochester, Minnesota; Amanda (Scott) McDougal of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; Daniel (Jenny) Reed of Plymouth, Minnesota; five sisters, Judy (Robert) Wolfe, Paulette (Ronald) Gould, Sharon (Sep) Tobing, Lisa de Sylva and Carol Cheney; eight grandchildren: Madeline (Ian Sedlacek) Reed of Madison, Wisconsin, Emma, Anne, Cora and Meryl McDougal of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Jonathan, Jacob and Grace Reed of Plymouth, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, John P. Wintermoyer, Jr. Visitation will be from 10:00 am - 11:00 am Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home and be available via online. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alton Public School Foundation, 505 School St., Alton, MO 65606 in support of an academic scholarship in Nancy's honor.
