Louis Lloyd Schlamer

Louis Lloyd Schlamer, 94, of Thebes, IL, died Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Daystar Care Center in Cairo, IL. He was born September 21, 1917 in Cache, IL to Emile and Jennie Hewitt Schlamer. He and Thelma Pauline Foster were married May 26, 1943 at Charleston, Missouri. Making it a union of 68 years. Louis served in the Army durring World War II. He was a Staff Sgt. with Company A, 381st Infantry Regiment, 96th Infantry Division "Deadeyes". He participated in the Division landing on Leyte in the Philippines on Oct. 20 1944, He was also in the first wave when the 96th Division landed on Okinawa on April 1, 1945, He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campagin Ribbon with two Bronze Service Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, combat Infantry Badge, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, Bronze Service Arrowhead, Expert Infantry Badge and two Overseas Service Bars. He was a member of American Legion Post 158, Jackson, Missouri Following his discharge he was employed by Florsheim Shoe Company until retirement, He was a member of the Thebes Grade School Board and a member of the Thebes Town Board, He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and going on nature walks with family members. He was an avid Cardinal Fan. Survivors include, his wife, Pauline of Thebes, a son Louis Ray "Bud" Schlamer, Thebes, IL, two daughters Linda Kay (Charles) Hutson, Jackson, MO and Vickie Sue (Zachary) Hannan, Mounds, IL Grandchildren Christopher Louis (Lindsey) Hutson, Cape Girardeau, MO, Craig Robert Hutson, Saint Louis, MO, Zachary Ryan (Ashley) Hannan, Anna, IL Great Grand Children, Jack Hutson, Cape Girardeau, MO, Kate Hutson, Cape Girardeau, MO, Nicholas Hannan, Anna, IL, Tyler Hannan, Anna, IL Sister - Emma Hinton, Cairo, IL Brother - Samuel "Dick" (Evelyn) Schlamer, Thebes, IL Sister-in-law - LaVern Schlamer, Cape Girardeau, MO He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Eula Vaughn and five brothers, one an infant brother and Joseph, Gerald, Emile and Carl Schlamer. Friends may call 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Ford & Sons Sprigg St. Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Funeral will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Ford & Sons Sprigg St. Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau with the Rev. Tommy Weems officiating.
