LaWanda Elaine Werner

LaWanda Elaine (Heise) Werner, of Jackson, Missouri died at home peacefully on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 surrounded by her family. She was born 91 years ago on August 1, 1934 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to Otto and Dona Crites Heise. She was baptized into the Christian faith on September 20, 1934 and confirmed on March 30, 1947 at Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. LaWanda attended her first seven years of school at Hanover Lutheran School, the little red brick school house, still standing beside the now Historical Hanover Lutheran Church on Perryville Road in Cape Girardeau. In the summer of 1947, LaWanda moved to Jackson when her father accepted the management of Kimbeland Farms. LaWanda attended her eighth grade at St. Paul Lutheran School in Jackson and graduated from Jackson High School in 1952. She and Vernon Louis Werner were married September 14, 1952 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson, Missouri, where they both remained members. He preceded her in death on August 31, 2021. LaWanda is survived by two sons, Randy Vernon (Terry) Werner and Mark Louis Werner both of Jackson, Missouri; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Werner Janet of Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren, Whitney (Adam) Embick and Tanner Randolph (Robyn) Werner both of Columbia, Illinois, Jordan (Megan) Janet of Cape Girardeau, Kylie (Carrie) Robert and Clay Louis Werner both of Jackson, Missouri, Taylor (Andrew) LaFoe and Dakota (Ryan) Janasik both of Saint Louis, Missouri, Ali Janet of Kansas City, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Mason and Nolan Embick, Wyndham and Scottie Werner, Libby, Hattie and Ramsey Janet, Finley Robert, James LaFoe and two on the way; a brother, Melvin (Janice) Heise of Millersville, Missouri; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Visitation will be 9:30 am to 11:30 am Monday, December 8, 2025 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson, Missouri. Funeral service will follow at 11:30 am at the church with the Rev. Joshua Schmidt officiating. Entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Paul Lutheran Church of Jackson, St. Paul Lutheran School (preschool) or a charity of your choice.
