June M. Thurman

June Thurman, 85, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Saturday, March 4, at her residence at the Chateau Estates. She was born January 8, 1932, in Griffithville, Arkansas, the daughter of Stewart and Alpha LeFerney McAllister. She married the love of her life, Charles Thurman, on September 5, 1954, in Little Rock, Arkansas. June spent her life loving and serving her family and so many others. June and Charlie developed many friends everywhere they lived - in Luling, Louisiana, Muscatine, Iowa, St. Louis, Missouri and Cape Girardeau, Missouri. She was known for her gift of hospitality, amazing cooking, and her ability to make everyone feel special and welcome. She celebrated God’s creation through her flower and vegetable gardens and enjoyed feeding and watching birds in her backyard. She loved her church family at Cape Bible Chapel, and especially those in the Senior Adults Sunday School class. June faithfully supported her beloved husband Charlie for over 62 years. She loved her family fiercely and served them tirelessly. Her love for Jesus Christ molded her life on earth and prepared her for eternity. She is survived by her husband, Charles Thurman, of Cape Girardeau; three daughters Debbie (Larry) Young, of San Antonio, Texas, Cindy (Gary) Olson, of Cape Girardeau and Margaret (Jim) Stanzell, of Tupelo, Mississippi and a bonus son, Russ (Kathy) Leffler of St. Louis, Missouri; Eleven grandchildren Lauren (Joe) Thomas, Andy (Kristie) Young, Jonathan (Natalie) Young, Beth (Clint) Renfrow, Stephen McKinney, Krista (Peter) Weeks, David Olson, Bethany Olson, J.P. Stanzell, Ben Stanzell and Maddie Stanzell; Nine great-grandchildren; Two sisters Evelyn Williams of Benton, Arkansas, Shirley (Craigh) Hopper of Luling, Louisiana, Two brothers James (Virginia) McAllister of West Palm Beach, Florida, Robert Lane of Conway, Arkansas; nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Bedola Fortner McDoniel. Friends and family may gather to celebrate June’s life at Cape Bible Chapel - visitation will be Tuesday, March 7 from 4-8pm and funeral service will be Wednesday, March 8 at 10am at the church. Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.
