John J. Keusenkothen

John Joseph Keusenkothen, 92, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri died Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Chateau Girardeau. He was born September 1, 1931 in Cape Girardeau to John L. and Genevieve Marie Diebold Keusenkothen. He and Annabelle Alma Gilder were married August 23, 1958 at St. Mary Cathedral, Cape Girardeau, MO. She preceded him in death on October 1, 2013. John was a graduate of St. Augustine Grade School, St. Mary's High School, Southeast Missouri State University and St Louis University with a masters in hospital administration. He served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He worked for Saint Francis Medical Center for 23 years, starting as controller, then financial administrator. He advanced to position of associate administrator and retired as President and CEO in 1991. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where he served as an eucharistic minister. He was also an Eucharistic Adorer at Saint Francis Medical Center Chapel for many years. He belonged to numerous hospital organizations, Cape Girardeau Rotary Club and Notre Dame Foundation Board. He loved spending time at the lake, skiing and camping with his family. Survivors include three sons, Dan (Kathy) Keusenkothen of St. Louis, MO, Jim (Kim) Keusenkothen of Jackson, MO, Mike Keusenkothen of St. Louis, MO; two daughters, Lisa (Jeff) Unterreiner of Cape Girardeau, MO, Mary Beth (David) Hercules of Kirkwood, MO; daughter-in-law, Kara Shrum of St. Louis, MO; sister, Sister Genevieve (Marianne) Keusenkothen, DC of St. Louis, MO; seven brothers, Joseph A. Keusenkothen of St. Louis, MO, Brother Thomas (Hubert) Keusenkothen, CFA of Chattanooga, TN, Bernard (Kathy) Keusenkothen of St. Louis, MO, Eugene Keusenkothen of Kelso, MO, Robert (Rose) Keusenkothen of St. Louis, MO, Richard (Kathleen) Keusenkothen of St. Louis, MO, Frederick Keusenkothen of St. Louis, MO; 18 grandchildren, John Paul (Alicia) Keusenkothen, Joseph Michael (Sarah) Keusenkothen, Josh (Julia) Keusenkothen, Jenny (Kyle) Schade, Justin (Samantha) Keusenkothen, Jaci Keusenkothen, Michael Keusenkothen, Eric Keusenkothen, Sean Keusenkothen, Sam Keusenkothen, Anna (Tyler) Needham, Evan Unterreiner, Eliot Hercules, Sophia Hercules, Stella Hercules, Ava Hercules, Lydia Hercules, Leonides Hercules; and nine great-grandchildren, Emery and Olivia, Nick, Noah, Charlotte, Carson, Annabelle, Isaac and Scarlett. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister, Sister Bernadette Keusenkothen, SSND; infant brother, Paul Keusenkothen; and sister-in-law, Laverne Keusenkothen. Friends may call 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, November 13, 2023 at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau. Parish prayers will be a 7 pm. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson with the Rev. Randy Tochtrop officiating. Burial will follow at St. Augustine Catholic Church Cemetery in Kelso. Full military rites will be provided by Missouri Honors Team. Memorial contributions may be given to Immaculate Conception Church Building Fund.
