Jimmy Ray Warder

Jimmy Ray Warder, 72, of Cape Girardeau, MO, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 1, 2010 after a 5 � year battle with cancer. During that time, he encouraged everyone he met to live for Jesus and to make heaven their goal. He was born in Cape Girardeau on November 6, 1937 to Harry and Bessie (Dunlap) Warder. On September 13, 1958, while in England serving his country, he married the love of his life, June Ann Broom, who survives. They shared nearly 52 years together, loving and honoring one another. Jim enlisted in the US Air Force in 1956 and completed four years of service. In 1968, he became an Illinois State Trooper and retired a Master Sergeant from the State Police on December 31, 1991 after 24 years. After retirement, he went to work for Wal-Mart in Cape Girardeau, greeting everyone who entered with a smile and a helping hand. He worked there for 13 years until January, 2005. Jim loved people and had a kind word for everyone he met. He died the way he lived, with God�s love and peace in his heart, and praise for his Lord on his lips. He was an inspiration to all who knew and loved him. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, James (Kathy) Warder of Harrisburg, IL, and his daughter, Lisa (David) Sander of Cape Girardeau. He is also survived by his step-father, Leslie Grah of Scott City, MO; his brother, Bob (Marvellee) Warder of Magnolia, AR; a brother-in-law, Ivor Broom of Great Yarmouth, England; and three step-sisters, Mary Johnson of Scott City, MO, Opal Horseley of Cape Girardeau, and Betty Lyons of Peoria, IL. He leaves behind three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Dustin (Megan) Warder of Owensboro, KY; Joshua Sander of Cape Girardeau; Melissa Sander of Fenton, MO; Nicolas Warder and Halle Warder, both of Owensboro, KY; and Lauren Sander of Fenton, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bill Warder. Visitation will be Monday, July 5th, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau. The funeral will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 6th with visitation from 10:00 AM until service time at Hobbs Chapel United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau with the Revs. Janet Hopkins and Debbie Arvelo officiating. Burial will be in the Hobbs Chapel Cemetery with Full Military Honors by the Mo. Honors Team and VFW Post 3838 Memorials may be made to Hobbs Chapel United Methodist Church, where he was a faithful member, or to the American Cancer Society.
