Janet Fenimore Robert

Janet Fenimore Robert, 80, of Jackson, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Saturday August 30th, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family and close friends. Born February 27, 1945, in Cape Girardeau, Janet was the daughter of Ralph and Virginia (Bohnsack) Fenimore. On November 26, 1966, she married the love of her life, Norman Robert Jr., at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Together, they shared 56 devoted and joyful years of marriage, building a life centered on family, service, and community. Janet graduated from Cape Central High School in 1963 and went on to attend Southeast Missouri State University. In April of 1977, Janet was appointed Recorder of Deeds for Cape Girardeau County by the Governor of Missouri. Over the next 34 years, she served with integrity, commitment, and an unwavering sense of responsibility until her retirement in 2010. She was an active member of the Missouri Recorder of Deeds Association. Prior to her career in public service, Janet also worked as a dental assistant for Dr. George Farrar. A proud and passionate Democrat, Janet was deeply involved in political life at every level, working alongside her husband to support campaigns and advocate for causes close to her heart. Her community involvement was far-reaching and lasting. She was a charter member of the Cape Women's Optimist Club, a longtime leader in the Cape Girls Optimist basketball program, and a dedicated volunteer with Mercy Southeast Cancer Center. She also held leadership and membership roles with CAYSA, Southeast Pets, P.E.O., Ramblewood Garden Club, Cape County Democratic Women's Club, Cape Jaycees Wives Club, Cape Central Boosters, and Southeast Missouri State University Boosters-a role she held proudly for over four decades. Janet's faith was a grounding force in her life, and she found spiritual community at Compass Church in Cape Girardeau. Her love for sports was another constant-she rarely missed a Cardinals game, cheered passionately for SEMO athletics, and remained a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan. She also cherished time at the beach, which brought her great joy and peace. Above all, Janet's greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a proud grandmother, and a doting great-grandmother. Her family includes three children: Andy (Amanda Korte) Robert of Cape Girardeau, MO; Carrie (Kylie) Robert of Jackson, MO; and Justin Robert of Weatherford, TX; four grandchildren: Dalton (Rachel) Robert; Dylan and Kennedy Robert; and Finley Robert; and two great-grandchildren: Kaynen and Kora Robert. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Patsy Robert of Cape Girardeau; siblings-in-law Mike (Kristi) Howard of Cape Girardeau, Kathy (Daryel) Carter of Overland Park, KS, and Steven (Mary) Robert of Arnold, MO; and a large extended family and cherished circle of friends. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Virginia Bohnsack Fenimore; her husband, Norman Robert Jr.; her mother-in-law, Virginia Robert; her father-in-law, Norman "Scobie" Robert Sr.; and her beloved dog and companion, Roxie, who passed on August 25, 2025. The family offers their deepest thanks to the compassionate teams at Mercy Southeast Cancer Center, Mercy Southeast Palliative Care, and Mercy Southeast Hospice, especially Dr. Andrew Moore, Kim Hagedorn, NP, and Kristen Seyer, NP, for the care, comfort, and kindness they provided throughout Janet's illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Janet's memory to the Southeast Missouri State University Athletic Department or Southeast Pets-two causes that meant a great deal to her. Janet will be remembered for her boundless generosity, her enduring faith, and her steadfast devotion to her family, friends, and community. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the love she gave so freely. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau. Memorial service will be at 10:00 am, Thursday, September 4, 2025, at the Compass Church, 521 Caruthers Ave, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701, with the Rev.
