Helen Lloyd

Helen Mildred Lloyd, 86, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, at Fountainbleau Lodge. She was born June 6, 1922, near Jackson, daughter of Louis Frederick and Frieda Henrietta Ahrens Gerecke. She and Charles W. Lloyd were married April 20, 1944, in Dillon, S.C. He died June 14, 1986. Lloyd attended the Old Clover Hill School and Hanover Lutheran School. She graduated from the former College High School in 1940, and then graduated from the former Cape Girardeau School of Beauty Culture. She was a hairdresser 41 years. She was a longtime member of Hanover Lutheran Church, where she was baptized and confirmed. She was active in the Ladies Aid Society and Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She was a volunteer many years with Southeast Missouri Hospital's Meals on Wheels program. Lloyd was a former member of Grace Lutheran Church in Malden, Mo., where she and her husband lived 33 years. She taught Sunday school 30 years. She was a Cub Scout den mother many years and a longtime member of the former Rodney Vista Homemakers Club in Cape Girardeau. Survivors include two sons, James Lloyd of Cape Girardeau, John Lloyd and wife Pam of Eugene, Ore.; three granddaughters, Carrie Clover, Megan Lloyd and Kelsey Lloyd; a great-grandson, Jacob Clover; two stepgranddaughters, Michelle Allen and Milissa Montalbano; two great-stepgrandchildren, Jarrett Allen and Rhys Allen; a brother, Charles Gerecke of Jackson; two sisters, Dorothy Hansen of Hazelwood, Mo., and Betty Renne of Gordonville. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray Gerecke and Rudy Gerecke; and a very special friend, Albert Bertling. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to service time Thursday, September 4, 2008 at Hanover Lutheran Church. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 4, 2008 at the church, with the Rev. Roger Hemming officiating. Burial will be in Hanover Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hanover Lutheran Church Building Fund, American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
