Grace Coy

Grace Irene Sailer Coy, 99, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri passed away Sunday, August 24, 2025 at Newbridge Retirement Community in Cape Girardeau. She was born March 12, 1926 in Gordonville, Missouri to Henry M. and Bertha Sebastian Sailer. She was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Gordonville, Missouri. She met the love of her life, S.G. "Coy" Coy the night before her 18th birthday. They were married on May 21, 1944 in Saint Louis, Missouri. They had been married for 66 years when Coy passed away on December 26, 2010. Grace worked for Harris Motor Car Co.; and various agents who owned the License Office. After retiring she worked at Holiday Happenings and Zickfield's Gift Box. Since Coy passed away she has been volunteering at the Missouri Veterans Home and amassed more than 7,500 volunteer hours. Grace was a member of Christ Evangelical Church, where she was a member of the church council choir, friendship circle, Mary Martha circle and UCC Group. Survivors include two sons, Randy Coy of Jackson, Missouri and Don (Carrie) Coy of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren, Mara Lee Coy of O'Fallon, Missouri, Jason (Amber Staples) Coy of O'Fallon, Missouri and Emily Powell of Jackson; eight great-grandchildren, Michael Staples, Trenton Powell, Brayden Coy, Camdyn Powell, Brooklyn Powell, Ella Coy, Ava Coy and Jaiden Spies; sister-in-law, Verla Sailer; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Melanie; two sisters, Ruth Bierschwal and Dorothy Catlett; one brother, Calvin Sailer; and an infant son and daughter. Visitation will be 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Thursday, August 28, 2025 at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau with the Rev. Debra Tracey officiating. Entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau. Memorial contributions may be given to Missouri Veterans Home, Christ Evangelical Church or a charity of choice.
