Gary W. Garner

Gary W. Garner, 65, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri died Saturday, July 9, 2016, at St Francis Medical Center He was born July 29, 1950, in Cape Girardeau, MO, to Robert Charles (RC) and Naomi Day Garner. He and Peggy Bollinger were married October 24, 2003 in Gatlinburg, TN Gary was co-owner of Ozarc Gas Equipment in Cape Girardeau until his retirement. He started working in the family business while in school. He also played drums in local bands hoping to make a career in music, playing in venues in St Louis and Chicago. Realizing his dream in music was not financially sound, he continued in the family business. In 1982, Gary and his brother, Bob, bought the company from their father. Gary was VP of sales until he sold his half of the company to his brother in 2010. While working at Ozarc Gas he always loved cars and racing . He loved to help local racers by sponsoring them. He loved NASCAR and went to races in his motor home, meeting new friends across the country. In 2014, he and his wife decided to retire from following NASCAR and sold their motor home to spend more time at home with his kids and grandkids. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Garner of Cape Girardeau, MO; daughter Alexis (Jim) Burnett of Jackson, MO; three sons: Cory (Robin) Garner of Maple Grove, MN; Nicholas (Leah) Garner of Benton, AR; and Carter Bess, of Jackson, MO; grandchildren: Kobee Garner, Evan Garner, Hailey Burnett, Cannen Garner, Addison Garner, Harper Burnett, Seth Garner, and Elliott Garner; sister Belinda (Jim) Goggin of Cape Girardeau, MO; brother Bob (Ann) Garner of Pevely, MO; brother-in-law Bob Miller of Cape Girardeau, MO; stepmother, Betty Garner of Lehigh Acres, FL; and his furry companion, Rudy. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Pamela Miller. A celebration of his life will be held at the Isle Casino Event Center, 777 N. Main St, Cape Girardeau, MO, on Saturday, July 30, 2016, from 1-3 pm. The family requests no suits, ties, or black mourning clothing. This is a celebration and casual, just as he wanted. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association, 9370 Olive, Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63132.
