Frieda Barbara Seyer

Frieda Barbara Seyer, 91, of Cape Girardeau died May 15, 2025, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. She was born September 9, 1933, in Cape Girardeau to Frank J. and Mary R. Eeftink Brockmeyer. She and Joseph A. Seyer were married Oct. 22, 1955, in Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death on May 6, 2013. Frieda was a graduate of the former St. Mary High School, now known as Notre Dame Regional High School. She was a life-long member of St. Mary Cathedral Parish. Frieda was a dedicated wife and mother. She was fiercely proud of her family, always happy to tell people the number of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is survived by seven children and 22 grandchildren, Beverly (Jerome) Essner of Kelso, MO, and their children, Scott (Sarah) Essner of Dow, IL, Amy (Ryan) Mattes of Kelso, Neal (Melissa) Essner of Peosta, IA, Renee (Matt) Scroggins of Kelso, and Kyle (Mikayla) Essner of Kelso; Walter (Kathy) Seyer of Kelso and their children, Adam (Valerie) Seyer of Kelso, Keith (Cami) Seyer of Vancouver, B.C., and Stacey (Derek) Welter of Kelso; Jeff Seyer of Edwardsville, IL and his children, Aaron and Nick Seyer; Ken Seyer of Jefferson City, MO, and his children Matt Seyer of Jefferson City and Mackenzie (Jereme) Sebastian of Kansas City, MO; Roger (Kari) Seyer of New York, NY, and their son, Declan Seyer; Steve (Jane) Seyer of Erie, CO and their children Lydia Seyer (fiancé Justin Searcy) of Exton, PA, and Isaac Seyer of Erie; and Teresa (Scott) Givens of Cape Girardeau and their children, Allie of Lake Saint Louis, MO, Evan, Jenna, and Michael Givens of Cape Girardeau; daughter-in-law Joni Seyer of Kelso and her children, Jacob (Deavyn) Seyer of Bellingham, WA, Taylor (Corey) Myers of Cape Girardeau, and Jordan Seyer of Springfield, MO; former daughter-in-law Debbie Seyer of Jefferson City, MO; 26 great-grandchildren and one more on the way. Frieda is also survived by sisters, Fran (Joe) Willenbring and Millie Seyer, both of Jackson, MO, brothers-in-law Paul Essner of Benton, MO, Don James and Paul Summers of Cape Girardeau, and Joe Schreckenberg of Hillsboro, MO, and sister-in-law Dorothy Seyer of Jackson, MO. She was preceded in death by her husband, her son, Chris Seyer, her daughter-in-law, Becky Seyer, her parents, five sisters, Sister Rose Francis (Irene) Brockmeyer, Bert Essner, Julia James, Dorothy Summers, and Theresa Schreckenberg, a brother and sister-in-law, Alfred and Ruth Brockmeyer, and a brother-in-law, Charles Seyer. Friends may call from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, May 18, 2025 at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Parish prayers will be at 4:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am Monday, May 19, 2025 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau with the Rev. Allan Saunders officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
