Freddie Ford

Freddie Ford, 77, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at his home with family by his side. He was a beloved husband, devoted father, adored grandfather and a dear friend to many. Freddie will be deeply missed. He was born June 11, 1940 in Nacogdoches, Texas to Jewel and Llewellyn (Townsend) Ford. He married Betty Avant and to that union five children were born. Freddie enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1961 and was honorably discharged in 1965. He received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for his deployment to Vietnam. He was named “Sailor of the Year” by the U.S. Naval Reserve Center of Cape Girardeau in 1987. Freddie served over 20 years in the Naval Reserves. In 1969 he graduated from the St. Louis Police Academy and worked as a police officer for the City of St. Louis for 10 years. He relocated to Cape Girardeau and he served the City of Cape Girardeau as a police officer from 1981 until he retired in 2000. He and Angela Brower were married on June 25, 1988 in Cape Girardeau. Freddie was of the Catholic Faith. Freddie is survived by his wife, Angela Ford of Cape Girardeau; six children, Jeffrey Ford of Cape Girardeau, MO, Jonathan Ford of Corpus Christi, TX, Felicia Ford (John Bailey) of St. Louis, MO, Jeremy (Jennifer) Ford of Meridian, MS, Joshua (Amy) Brower of De Soto, MO, and Francine Ford of Denton, TX; 12 grandchildren, Marcus Schneider, Zoe Sorenson, Nicholas Brower, Devyn Ford, Lyvia Ford, Persia Sebastian, Julian Ford, Sena Ford, Tobyas Ford-Nolte, Brendan Bailey, Aiden Bailey, Andrew Bailey; sisters-in-law, Michelle (Daniel) Kitchens of St. Louis, MO, Tracey Levan of McClure, IL and Carla Williams of Oran, MO; mother-in-law, Carolyn Brower of McClure, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape. Parish Payers will be at 7:00 PM. Funeral mass will be at 11:00 AM Monday, January 15, 2018 at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau with the Rev. Francisco Gordillo officiating. Entombment with full military honors will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be given to Autism Speaks or the National Kidney Foundation.
