Elmer A. Schearf

Elmer A. Schearf, 89 of Cape Girardeau, MO died on September 12, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital, Cape Girardeau where he was surrounded by his beloved family. He was born October 12, 1931, in Kankakee, IL, son of Phillip and Myrtle Schearf. He and Jewel (Judy) Campbell were married July 4, 1953, in Delta, MO. Elmer attended Delta High School. Elmer serviced in the U.S. Army from 1948-1951 where he was part of the Chosin Reservoir battle and was a purple heart recipient. Anyone that knew Elmer, knows how he loved talking about his service to his country. After his time in service, Elmer worked for Western Electric (ATT) and in construction and telecommunications. He was a faithful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was an ordained deacon at Fellowship Baptist Church, Cape Girardeau where he was an active member at the time of his death. Elmer was also an active member in the VFW, a former color guard and a member of the Fraternity of Honor, The Chosin Few. Elmer had a knack of making people laughed and will always be remembered for his funny jokes, sayings and shenanigans as well as his righteous dedication to family and Christ. Elmer is survived by his wife of 68 years, Jewel (Judy); daughter, Debra (Wayland) Stacy of Marble Hill, MO; son, Bryan (Betty) Schearf of Oak Point, TX; three grandchildren, Laura (Jamion) Shelton, Lisa (Chuck) Isom, and C.W. (Jessica) Stacy; great grandchildren, Makala Sites, Chelsie Fox, Malori Shelton, Travis Fox, Maura Shelton, Wayland Stacy, Lydia Isom and Brendon Stacy; brother, Alvin (Maybell) Schearf; sister- in-laws, Enid Schearf, Oneida Schearf, Virginia Schearf; and brother-in-law, Wesley (Carolyn) Campbell and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, father in-law and mother in-law Chester and Norma Campbell; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Stacy; brothers, Levis Schearf, Lloyd Schearf, Eugene Schearf, Donny Schearf; sister, Mildred Campbell; brother-in-law, Lynule Campbell; and sister-in-law, Rachel Schearf. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau. In lieu of flowers the family ask for memorial donations to be made to Fellowship Baptist Church, 430 Koch Ave, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701.
