Edna E. Schwartz

Edna E. Schwartz, age 94, of Cape Girardeau, MO died Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. She was born October 2, 1917 in Gordonville, MO to William and Martha Lange Gerecke. She married Roy F. Schwartz August 31, 1940 at Apple Creek, MO. Edna was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Gordonville, MO. She converted to the Catholic faith in 1953 and became a member of the Cathedral of St. Mary in Cape Girardeau. She was active in the St. Paul�s Guild, the Catholic Council of Women, and the League of Mary. Before her marriage she worked at the International Shoe Factory on Main Street and the Woolworth Store. After her marriage, she traveled with her husband when he was drafted into the service. Her favorite pastime was bowling. She belonged to the Women�s Bowling Association. She enjoyed watching bowling, Cardinals baseball, golf, and tennis on television these last few years. However, she best loved spending time with her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. Edna is survived by six children: Lorelei Schwartz Jones of Cape Girardean, MO; Janet Schwartz of Kansas City, MO; Diane Schwartz of Fenton, MO; Keith (Barbara Siebert) Schwartz of High Ridge, MO; Kirk (Michaela Kearney) Schwartz of Kansas City, MO; and Craig Schwartz of Fort Worth, TX. Also surviving her are six grandchildren: Katherine Schwartz of Fenton, MO; Kevin (Brooke Parsons) Schwartz of Eureka, MO; Kelly Schwartz and Kyle Schwartz of High Ridge, MO; Danielle (Daniel) Motta of Kansas City, MO; Dominic Schwartz of Kansas City, MO; and two great-grandchildren: Carter Schwartz of Eureka, MO. and Nolan Motta of Kansas City, MO. She leaves one sister, Linda Gerecke Lewis, of Wichita, KS; two brothers, Lorenz (Jane) Gerecke of Escondido, CA and William (Sue) Gerecke of Cape Girardeau, MO. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; her parents, William and Martha Gerecke; sisters, Ella Gerecke Shelton, Anita Gerecke Taylor, and Maria Gerecke; brothers, Martin, Edward, and Walter Gerecke; half-sisters, Frieda Gerecke Quade and Ida Gerecke Quade; and half-brothers, Herman, Alvin, and Fred Gerecke. Visitation is Friday, October 7 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Ford & Sons Sprigg Street Chapel. Parish prayers will be at 7:00PM. . The funeral mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral of St. Mary in Cape Girardeau on Saturday, October 8 at 10:00 a.m. with the Reverend Thomas Kiefer officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Building on Faith-St. Mary Cathedral or to the charity of your choice.
