Donnie Roger Shuck

Donnie R. Shuck of Cape Girardeau passed away unexpectedly on Saturday December 3rd, at the age of 87. Donnie was born in Cape Girardeau on August 19, 1935, to father J. Roy Shuck and mother Mary M. Shuck. Donnie graduated from St. Mary's High School and attended Southeast Missouri State University studying mechanical engineering prior to becoming proprietor of The Barn Drive Inn on South Kingshighway from 1958-1967. For the next 38 years he was employed by the State of Missouri Department of Employment Security where he retired as a supervisor. His love of country was seen through his dedicated military service with the US Army Reserves and the Missouri Army National Guard for 40 plus years as both a Noncommissioned Officer and Warrant Officer assigned to the 1140th Engineer Battalion and 135th Engineer Group of Cape Girardeau. Donnie was an avid hunter, fisherman and sportsman. He had a love of the land while being a staunch conservationist. He was an expert marksman and enjoyed handloading ammunition while also having a love for tying his own flies for fishing. Donnie shared his love of being an outdoor enthusiast with his family and friends who have carried on his love of nature and stewardship of the land. Donnie was a proud husband, father of three, grandfather of eight, and great grandfather of one. For 62 years he was married to the love of his life Ellen. They were married on October 1st 1960 and had 3 loving children. Donnie was deeply religious and an active member in the Catholic Church. In his later years, Donnie once again reached out to his community to serve as a board member of the Catholic Social Ministries Food Pantry while also serving as a board member with the Missouri State Employees' Retirement System. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Roger Lynn (Kimberly) Shuck of New Braunfels, Texas, Barry Wayne (Amy) Shuck of Sarasota, Florida; and one daughter, Heather Dawn (Tim) Graves of Fruitland, Missouri. Visitation will be 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, December 9, 2022 with a rosary ceremony at 7:00 pm at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau. Funeral mass will be at 10:00 am Saturday, December 10, 2022 at St. Mary Cathedral in Cape Girardeau with the Rev. Allan Saunders officiating.
