Barbara Osborne

Barbara Jean Osborne, 94, of Cape Girardeau went to her heavenly home Saturday, June 21, 2025. Barbara was born Jan. 4, 1931, in Marion County, Illinois, to Ed and Ethel Luttrell Hodge. She was the third oldest of nine siblings. She and Don Edward Osborne married on Dec. 1, 1954, and celebrated 46 years of marriage before Don's passing. Barbara was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau. She was a dedicated Sunday school teacher, vacation Bible school teacher and taught children about missions. She spent many summers cooking food for campers at Peaceful Valley. Barbara was also involved and held leadership roles in the Women's Missions Union. She cooked meals for the disaster relief team in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Barbara also went on mission trips to Malawi, Africa, and Belarus, Russia. She loved Jesus and wanted everyone to know Him as their personal Savior. She often said, "Without Jesus, I am nothing." Barbara enjoyed shopping, a good cup of coffee, making delicious chocolate meringue and coconut cream pies, and making beautiful quilts for loved ones. She took lots of pride in providing a warm and loving home to share with all of her family. Barbara and Don started a business, Osburne Office Equipment, in October 1972. She was a dedicated office manager and teammate to her husband. She and Don were grateful for being blessed with a successful business and because of that, felt a responsibility to be generous in helping others in need. Survivors include her sons, Don Allen Osborne (Chereyl) and Jeff Osborne; daughters, Candice Brazil and Crystal Bartusch; a sister, Karen Whipple; brothers, Gary Hodge (Sherri), Larry Hodge (Nina) and Ronnie Hodge; eight grandchildren, Justin Osborne (Ann), Lindsey Hutson (Chris), Ashely Katerberg (Justin), Jake Brazil, McKenzey Bartusch, Zachary Smolak, Avery Smolak, and Max Smolak; seven great grandchildren, Jack Hutson, Owen Osborne, Kate Hutson, Ellie Osborne, Juliette Osborne, Will Osborne, and Isla Katerberg. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, who were very dear to her. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Don Osborne; son, Matthew Osborne; parents, Ed Hodge and Ethel Coyer; brothers, Billy Ray Hodge and Charles Hodge; and sisters, Judy Debora and Willadene Ward. In the most sacred moments of life, it takes extraordinary people to offer comfort, dignity and peace. Barbara's family would like to express their sincere and heartfelt gratitude to the incredible staff and caregivers at Legacy Hospice and Comfort Care. Their compassion, kindness and presence brought not only comfort to Barbara but also to her family. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 28, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Funeral service will follow at noon at the funeral home, with Dr. Shawn Wasson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Bethany Baptist Church.
