Andrew David Jones

Andrew David Jones, son of Gerald L. and the late Joan C. Jones and Caroline and George Thompson, was born April 30, 1964, in Memphis, TN and died unexpectedly August 3, 2017, at Orange Beach, AL. On November 29, 1996 he married the love of his life Kerri Mitchell Jones, who preceded him in death just 17 days prior. When he met Kerri for the first time, he said to his sister “That’s the woman for me”, it was truly love at first sight. Drew attended the University of Mississippi then later served in the United States Air Force. Drew lived and loved passionately. He had a big heart and always wanted everyone to be happy and he never met a stranger. He was passionate about his family, Cardinal baseball, and he could grill for hours and savor every minute of it. Riley Katherine, his daughter wrote: On July 17th the strongest woman I have ever known passed. On August 3rd, the strongest man in my life passed as well. I think this comes down to they were meant to be together, as cliché as that may sound. My dad put absolutely every bit of love, energy, and hard-work into his family. His only goal and his main motivation was to make sure we were all MORE than just okay. He was your typical fix-it man. Sometimes I’d catch him literally searching for things that he could make better. (Aside from my broken fan that seemed to disappear from that list). He could make anything seem right again. However, without my mom, things began to get rough. We were all very stressed and under pressure to make things “seem right again”. For 17 days he tried his hardest. I know that he really did put the last bit of love, energy, and hard work and his life into making things better for all of us. I love and respect him so much for all that he did for Mom, Garrett and me. I know that he loves us all, more than we could ever know. Drew was also preceded in death by his step-mother Joan Chapman Jones, his grandparents, Ted and Vivian Burnett, and Bernie and Christine Jones and one niece Haley Nichole Karnes. He is survived by his children, Riley Katherine, 16 and Garrett Mitchell, 14, his father Gerald Jones of Cape Girardeau, his mother Caroline (George) Thompson of Franklin, TN, one sister, Claire (Mark) Kneer of Cape Girardeau, their children Nick and Nathan Karnes, and two step-brothers, Peyton (Bebe) Powell of Huntsville, AL, and James “Bo” Powell of Scott City, two step-sisters, Kelli (David Porter) Ivy and Holli (Ric) Tomme. Two brothers-in-law, Brian (Candy) Mitchell, Kennett, MO, and Dr. Joseph “Blake” (Elizabeth) Mitchell of Madison, MS. He also leaves behind dear friends, Jeanetta and Keith Daum and hundreds of “sistas and brothers from other mothers”. A celebration of life visitation will be Tuesday, August 8th from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home. Services will follow at 4:00 p.m. with full military honors. Memorial donations may be given to the Humane Society of your choice.
