Mintry Newbern

Mintry V. Newbern at the age of 78 was granted her angel wings on Monday, January 18, 2010 at 9:20PM at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, MO. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends whose life she touched in some special way throughout her life. Her life may seem too short to many, but those who were touched by her understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. Her gentle smile brought so much joy to our family. Mintry was born August 10, 1931 to Luther Sullivan and Zettie Bell Owens in Brownsville, TN . She and William Roscoe Newbern Sr. were married April 19, 1946 at Corinth, Mississippi. They shared 51 years together before his death Nov. 19, 1997. Ten children were born to this union. Mintry was employed many years by Dr. C.R. Talbert and Dr. Chas Bahn. She was later employed and retired from Central Packing Company. Mintry was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church where she was a faithful servant. She was a member of the Missionary Society, Usher Board, and was head of the kitchen until her health failed her. Left to cherish her loving memory is her daughters: Jeanette (Alfred) Hawkins of Decatur, IL; Mable (Charlie) Kent of Meridian, MS; Lily Gilwater of Cape Girardeau, MO; sons: William Thomas (Ethel) Newbern of Decatur, IL; James (Marilyn) Newbern of Belleville, Il; William Roscoe Jr. (Brenda) Newbern of Cape Girardeau, MO; Dwight Newbern of Decatur, Il; Robert (Trish) Newbern of Cape Girardeau, MO; Andre Newbern of St. Louis, MO; foster son: Patrick (Tamara) Buck of Cape Girardeau, MO; sister: Jeanetta Adams of Cape Girardeau, MO; 30 grandchildren, 64 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son QT Newbern, daughter Jenny Newbern and foster son Jerry Buck. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, January 22, 2010 at the Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel and again at the Greater Dimension Ministries Church, 723 Hackberry St. in Cape Girardeau, MO., on Saturday, January 23, 2010 from 11:00 AM until service time. Funeral will be at 12:00 PM Noon Saturday, January 23, 2010 at the Greater Dimension Ministries Church , 723 Hackberry St. in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Johnny Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
